President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the newly-constructed ten-storey multipurpose Twin Towers at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
The edifice, named after the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof Abednego F. O. Amartey, will have spacious lecture halls, lecturers’ offices, meeting and reading rooms, commercial and residential areas, a moot court, rooftop dining area, an open-air terrace as well as ancillary facilities.
Speaking during a brief commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, December 18, the President commended the UPSA management and Governing Council for their visionary leadership and commitment to advancing education in Ghana.
He praised their dedication to creating a conducive learning environment and ensuring the university’s infrastructure aligns with its mission to provide quality education.
President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that the newly commissioned facility would significantly enhance the university’s capacity to meet the needs of its students and faculty while contributing to national development.
“This facility stands as a clear testament to UPSA’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and creating an environment that fosters excellence,” the President said.
“It is a pleasure to witness firsthand the remarkable progress being made at this institution, which continues to redefine professional education in Ghana.”
He further stated that “The University of Professional Studies, Accra is a shining example of the transformative power of education and vision. From its humble beginning as the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) to its present status as one of Ghana’s leading institutions of higher learning, UPSA’s journey has been remarkable.”
The Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. Abednego F. O. Amartey, expressed his profound joy and satisfaction with the successful completion of the project, which he noted will address the needs of the growing student population.
He emphasized that the commissioning of the Twin Towers marks a significant step toward enhancing the university’s capacity to deliver quality education and improve the overall student experience.
Present at the commissioning were Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister for Education; Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister for National Security; Dr Kofi Ohene-Konadu, Chairman of the UPSA Governing Council; Prof John K.M. Mawutor, Pro Vice-Chancellor; and Mrs Lorraine Gyan, Registrar of UPSA.
