Management team visits former Rector, Rev. JJ Martey

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has led a delegation from the university’s management to visit Rev. Fr. JJ Martey, a former Rector of the then Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), now UPSA.

Rev. Fr. Martey served as Director of IPS from 2001 to 2003 and subsequently as Rector from 2003 to 2008

The visit, which forms part of the university’s broader stakeholder engagement strategy, aimed at reconnecting with past leaders. It was also marked by deep reflection, mutual appreciation, and the sharing of institutional memories and visions for the future.

Prof. Mawutor recalled his student days at IPS when Rev. Martey served as Rector, and he himself was the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President.

He expressed profound gratitude to Rev. Martey for his support and encouragement during those formative years, particularly for giving him his first employment opportunity at the university in 2005.

“I remember your strong leadership and the high standards you set. I am especially grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve. Your legacy is clear, and I am committed to building upon it,” Prof. Mawutor said.

Prof Mawutor, who assumed office in January this year, shared the strategic vision of his administration, outlining key initiatives and plans designed to further elevate UPSA’s academic and professional standing.

Rev. Martey, in turn, reflected on his time as Rector, highlighting both the rewarding moments and the challenges he encountered.

He offered valuable counsel to the current leadership, encouraging them to foster an environment of respect, inclusion, and collaboration.

“Leadership is about people. Make your employees and everyone around you feel welcome,” Rev Martey advised. “When you see your shortcomings, don’t force it—delegate some roles to others.”

He commended the Vice-Chancellor for his vision and leadership and urged the management team to work closely together in building a stronger and more vibrant UPSA.

The meeting was attended by key members of the university’s leadership, including the Registrar, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan; Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Samuel Antwi and Prof. Emmanuel Selase Asamoah; and the Director of Finance, Mr. Nicholas Adjei.
