Ivy Heward-Mills named in 2023 Top 10 PR Women in Ghana

Director of the Centre for International Education and Collaboration (CIEC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Ivy Heward-Mills, has been recognised as one of the Top 10 Women in Public Relations in Ghana for 2023.

The prestigious national honour was conferred by Women in PR Ghana, an all-female professional networking body. It highlights Ms. Heward Mills’ significant contributions and achievements in the field.

Having previously served as the deputy director at the UPSA’s Public Affairs Directorate, Ms. Hewards-Mills has played a pivotal role in shaping the public relations landscape in Ghana.

Ivy Heward-Mills is an agile, renowned communications strategist known in the industry for her depth in international protocol and cross-cultural etiquette.

Throughout her career, she has exhibited a keen ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, effectively manage crises, and create impactful communication strategies.

In 2023, Ms. Heward-Mills participated in several speaking engagements, one of which was the Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit in London organised by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council.

She was also a speaker at the 2023 International Women Leadership Conference in Dubai as well as the 2023 Women in PR Ghana annual summit, where she thrilled participants with a presentation on the topic ‘‘Mind the gap: bridging the gap between your online brand and the real you with business etiquette.”

At CIEC, Ms. Heward-Mills has spearheaded numerous successful initiatives aimed at fostering global partnerships, enhancing UPSA’s international presence, and showcasing its academic offerings to the world.

Other personalities who made it to the list of Top 10 women in PR include Gifty Bingley (Senior Communications Officer at the African Union Mission to Somalia), Shirley Tony Kum (Corporate Communications Manager, Vivo Energy, Shell), Georgina Asare Fiagbenu (Senior Communications Officer, MTN Ghana), and Dr. Paulina Kuranchie (Corporate Communications Lecturer and Consultant).

The rest are Praise Nutakor (Head of Communications and Partnerships, UNDP Ghana), Emma Wenani (Chief Director, Global Media Alliance), Maame Akua Amoah Twum (Communications Coordinator for Anglophone West and North Africa, Afrobarometer), Laila Abubakari (External Communications Manager, Electricity Company of Ghana), and Sandra Amarquaye (Corporate Communications Manager, Karpowership Ghana).

They were recognised based on their successful PR campaigns, resilient approach to crises, and ability to leverage emerging platforms to enhance communication strategies.

Women in Public Relations Ghana is a professional not-for-profit networking organisation committed to educating, mentoring, and empowering female PR professionals and students.

Established in 2017, the all-female group boasts more than five hundred members across the country.
