GUPS executive pays courtesy call on Vice-Chancellor

The leadership of the Ghana Union of Professional Students (GUPS) has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor at his office on Friday, February 7.

The visit was to officially introduce the new GUPS executive and also to seek the VC’s blessings, counsel, and guidance as they begin their tenure.

The Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, expressed his commitment to the growth and development of GUPS.

He emphasised the importance of restoring the union to its former glory, reminding the executives of the vibrant nature of GUPS in the past.

He congratulated the GUPS executives on their induction into office and encouraged them to work towards uniting their front rather than dividing it.

“It is time to restructure the union by reviewing your constitution to reflect the current needs and aspirations of members and professional students in general,” Prof Mawutor advised.

He further urged the executive to ensure the union remains relevant by organising impactful programmes and exciting events that allign with students’ interests and ambitions.

Prof Mawutor, who was a former GUPS president, also highlighted the need for GUPS to actively advocate for students’ interests, encouraging the union to explore partnerships with funding agencies to promote soft skills, technical  expertise, and vocational training among students.

“This will equip graduates with additional value beyond their degrees and diplomas and prepare them for the job market,” he added.

The President of GUPS, Joyland Dedey Mensah, expressed gratitude for the Vice-Chancellor’s guidance and assured him of their commitment to reviving the union.

She pledged to lead efforts that will foster unity among members and enhance the relevance of GUPS in the professional and academic development of all students.
