The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has inaugurated newly elected executives of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana, UPSA Chapter, marking a formal transition in graduate student leadership. The handing-over ceremony, held on Friday, 17 July 2026, brought together representatives of University Management, student leaders, members of GRASAG-UPSA and the wider graduate student community.
The ceremony marked the end of the tenure of the outgoing GRASAG-UPSA administration led by its President, Mr John Mwiniasaa Nounyah, whose leadership contributed to the advancement of graduate student representation, welfare and engagement within the University.
In his farewell address, Mr Nounyah expressed appreciation to University Management, his fellow executives, student leaders and the graduate student body for their support throughout his tenure. He encouraged the incoming administration to be guided by integrity, accountability, inclusiveness and servant leadership, while remaining committed to the interests of graduate students.
The newly sworn-in GRASAG-UPSA executives are Mr Samuel Sasu Adonteng, President; Mr Michael Duncan Manyah, Vice President; Ms Ennuson Nana Aba Afomoaba, General Secretary; Mr Norbert Okyere Boansi, Finance Officer; Ms Samantha Abdallah, Women’s Commissioner; and Mr Kelvin Saka, Organising Secretary.
Delivering his inaugural address, the new GRASAG-UPSA President, Mr Samuel Sasu Adonteng, thanked graduate students for the confidence reposed in the new administration. He pledged to work collaboratively with his fellow executives to advance graduate student-centred initiatives, strengthen representation and deepen constructive engagement between graduate students and University Management.
Mr Adonteng further affirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting an inclusive campus environment that supports academic excellence, research innovation and the overall welfare of graduate students.
In their respective remarks, dignitaries present at the ceremony offered counsel to the new leadership. The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Selase Asamoah, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to graduate student welfare and urged the executives to place academic excellence at the centre of their agenda.
The Vice-Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Dr Andrews Ayiku, emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between GRASAG-UPSA and the School in addressing postgraduate student concerns. The Vice Dean of Students, Prof. Anthony Kumasey, urged the executives to foster unity and maintain open channels of communication between the graduate student body and University Management.
The National GRASAG President, Mr Richard Class Peters, delivered a message of solidarity from the national body and encouraged the new executives to uphold the values of GRASAG while representing UPSA graduate students with integrity at the national level.
The peaceful transition reflected UPSA’s commitment to responsible student governance and the development of emerging leaders through democratic participation, accountability and service.
