GLICO Group CEO lauds UPSA faculty-authored book project

The Chief Executive Officer of GLICO Group, Edward Forkuo Kyei, has praised the faculty-authored book initiative advanced by the newly-inducted Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor John Mawutor.

He described the initiative as “laudable and progressive” and expressed a keen interest in partnering with UPSA to bring the project to fruition.

The UPSA faculty-authored book initiative, a brainchild of the Vice-Chancellor, aims to develop and publish locally authored course textbooks tailored to the university’s various programs.

These textbooks will integrate more local business case studies to enrich teaching and learning experiences.

“We all know how, as students, we adored teachers or lecturers who were authors of our favourite course books we read,” Mr. Kyei remarked.  “The production of academic textbooks focusing on local case studies will not only immortalize indigenous businesses but also contribute to knowledge development that is contextually relevant.”

Mr. Kyei made these remarks when the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mawutor, paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday, February 19.

The visit forms part of the new Vice-Chancellor’s strategic engagements with Corporate Ghana as he seeks support for his vision for the university.

As part of this vision, Prof. Mawutor highlighted that UPSA has restructured its academic approach, shifting from traditional basic research to impactful and solution-driven project work for final-year students.

“The purpose of research is about solving real-world problems, so we want to get to a point where every project by our students should end up as a digital business or product,” Prof Mawutor stated.

He also made an appeal for support towards the establishment of a laptop assembly lab on the UPSA campus to provide students with hands-on experience in technology and innovation.

Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor on the visit were the Registrar, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan; Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation & Knowledge Transfer, Prof. Samuel Antwi; and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic & Student Affairs, Prof. Emmanuel Asamoah.
