The Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Studies (FITCS) of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has welcomed its newly admitted students with an orientation programme aimed at preparing them for academic life and professional development.
The orientation for fresh students, held on Friday, February 6, 2026, brought together University Management and faculty leaders who urged the students to remain focused, disciplined and entrepreneurial throughout their studies.
The Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. John K. M. Mawutor, encouraged the students to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and a positive attitude as they begin their university journey.

“This University was built on the spirit of entrepreneurship,” Prof Mawutor said. “Do not limit your thinking to who will employ you; rather, think about how you can create opportunities and add value to society.”
He cautioned the students against negative influences and distractions that could undermine their academic and personal development.
“Do not associate yourself with negative energy,” he cautioned, stressing that success in the University requires focus, discipline and consistency.
Prof. Mawutor also highlighted the importance of professionalism and responsible use of technology.

“Professionalism here at UPSA means respect for yourself and others, respect for time and deadlines, and being ethically upright with the use of technology,” he stated.
He further reminded students to communicate responsibly, especially on digital platforms, and to be mindful of what they say or write about the University and others.
Dean of FITCS, Prof. Godfred Yaw Moi-Akrofi, assured the fresh students of the Faculty’s readiness to support them throughout their academic journey.
He acknowledged that some students may feel uncertain as they begin university life but encouraged them to take advantage of available support systems.
“I know most of you are uncertain, but I want to allay your fears. We are here to help you go through your academic journey without difficulty,” he said.

Prof Koi-Akrofi added that the University’s Management has put in place structures to ensure that students receive the academic guidance and support they need to succeed.
He encouraged them to engage their lecturers, remain committed to their studies and take responsibility for their learning.
The orientation formed part of FITCS’s efforts to formally welcome fresh students and equip them with the values, mindset and guidance needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving fields of information technology and communication studies.
