FirstBank Ghana has made a cheque donation of GHS100,000 in support of the faculty-authored textbook project at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

The initiative is aimed at developing and promoting locally authored academic textbooks with Ghanaian business case studies.

Managing Director of FirstBank Ghana, Mr. Victor Yaw Asante, presented the cheque to the University at a brief ceremony held at the bank’s Head Office in Accra on Friday, June 20, 2025.

Mr Asante reiterated the bank’s enthusiasm for the partnership, describing the initiative as “innovative and laudable.”

He expressed confidence in UPSA’s vision and stated that the bank is pleased to play a part in supporting high-quality, homegrown academic content.

“This initial tranche” Mr Asante said “forms part of a broader financial commitment by FirstBank Ghana to the innovative project.”

The Registrar of UPSA, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan, commended FirstBank for their generosity and trust in the institution.

She thanked the bank for supporting the Vice Chancellor’s vision, adding that the gesture marks the beginning of a promising partnership between UPSA and FirstBank.

“We are grateful for this kind gesture and assure you that UPSA will deliver value for money,” Mrs Gyan noted.

Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer (RIKT), Prof. Samuel Antwi, emphasized the University’s strong commitment to the success of the textbook project.

“The future is bright,” he said. “We are confident this partnership will grow stronger in the years ahead.”

The event was attended by senior officials from UPSA, including Mrs. Leticia Akyeampong, Deputy Director of Administration.

The textbook project is part of UPSA’s broader strategy to transform teaching and learning through the development of contextually relevant academic course books, with a focus on practical applications of Ghanaian business case studies.

It is aimed at promoting locally authored academic books while reducing the university’s reliance on foreign materials.
