The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has eulogised Prof. Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, for his exceptional leadership and lasting impact on higher education in Ghana.

Addressing the Fourth Session of the 16th UPSA Congregation ceremony on Friday, Dr. Adutwum commended Prof. Amartey for his transformational work, both at UPSA and in Ghana’s educational landscape.

He recalled several milestones, including Prof. Amartey’s tenure as Chairman of Vice-Chancellors Ghana (VCG), and highlighted their collaborative efforts to address challenging issues.

Notably, he emphasised Prof. Amartey’s role in resolving the frequent strikes by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and fostering solutions that promoted stability.

“I congratulate you for what you have done for this university and for universities in general,” Dr. Adutwum said in a glowing tribute to the VC, whose second and final term in office expire at the end of this year.

The education minister encouraged other higher education leaders to embrace Prof. Amartey’s vision and transformative approach as models for change, challenging them to pursue transformation at all levels.

“Begin to understand that the status quo should not always endure. We can create a better environment for our country and our community,” he stated.

“Change is possible. When you are fully confident that you can change, you can truly transform. The story of UPSA is now being replicated at the Ministry of Education. That you step into a space and make sure you change the space. That’s how you leave a lasting legacy.”

Prof Okoe Amartey, thanked the minister of education for his support throughout his tenure.

He also commended the staff, faculty, and students of UPSA, attributing his achievements to their hard work and commitment.

Prof Okoe Amartey is the second Vice-Chancellor of UPSA. He assumed office in January 2017, having worked as Pro Vice-Chancellor prior to that.
