Dr. Francisca Kusi-Appiah, a lecturer and Head of the Public Law Department of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, has been appointed Vice Dean of the UPSA Law School.
Her appointment is in recognition of her extensive contributions to the institution and her stellar academic and professional background.
Dr. Kusi-Appiah brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role, where she will serve as the deputy to Professor Ernest Kofi Abotsi, who was appointed as the Dean of the Law School in 2020.
Her association with UPSA Law School dates back to the school’s inception, and she has played an integral role in shaping its academic landscape.
She holds a PhD from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, and Mineral Law and Policy, University of Dundee, Scotland, UK. She also obtained a Master’s degree with a specialisation in Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Law from the University of Houston, Texas.
Prior to her academic career, Dr. Kusi-Appiah garnered extensive practical experience as a qualified lawyer, having worked with prestigious law firms in Ghana and the United States.
Her commitment to leveraging the law for the advancement of sustainability and social causes is unwavering, and she maintains an active legal consulting practice in this regard.
At UPSA Law School, Dr. Kusi-Appiah has taught a diverse range of courses, with a particular focus on energy law and the law of torts.
Her scholarly contributions are noteworthy, encompassing a variety of legal areas. Some of her notable works include publications such as “Escaping the ‘Resource Curse’: A Decade of Petroleum Exploration in Ghana” and “Implication of Competition Law Enforcement in the Electricity Sector: A Comparative Analysis of the UK and the US.”
