The Management of the University of Professional Studies, Accra has called for calm and vigilance as the institution puts in place precautionary measures against the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Ghana, on March 12, 2020, recorded its first cases of COVID-19, which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
In line with global preventive measures and in response to the call by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana for citizens to take precautionary measures, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor Charles Barnor, in a statement to the University community, has called for the de-densification of all public places on campus.
He said all public events and social gatherings on campus have been suspended until further notice. “Except for lectures, all events that require massing have been put on hold till further notice,” he directed.
Lecturers have also been directed to mount lecture notes and other teaching-learning materials on the University’s Learning Management System for the subsequent weeks. He explained that this is to ensure continuity in the academic calendar in the event of any unforeseen circumstance in the future.
Professor Barnor further announced that all lifts in monumental buildings have been shut down with immediate effect as part of safety measures.
He assured the safety of all students, staff and visitors on campus and revealed that the Director of Health Services will soon issue further safety and preventive measures.
The Pro-VC called on all and sundry to bear with the University as these stringent measures are enforced to avert any mishap.
“Please bear with us at this moment as we take preventive measures to ensure our campus is safe,” he said. “Your safety is our concern.”
