Mrs. Lorraine Buerkie Gyan

Mrs. Lorraine Buerkie Gyan assumed office as the Registrar of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in April 2024, becoming the first alumna and the second female to occupy the position. She is a seasoned Human Resources professional and an education administrator with more than fifteen years’ experience in higher education management and public administration.

She wields a comprehensive portfolio spanning years of extensive work with students, faculty, and staff and has an in-depth understanding of university administration as well as student services.

Prior to her appointment, Mrs Gyan held the position of Director of Administration and Coordinator of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. She joined UPSA in 2007 as an Assistant Registrar at the Human Resources Department before being promoted to the rank of Senior Assistant Registrar in charge of Administration in 2013. In September 2018, she was appointed Deputy Director in the same department and was later reassigned to the Human Resources Department in 2020 as part of the University’s restructuring drive. After serving for barely a year, she was again reassigned to the School of Graduate Studies (SOGS) as a Senior Assistant Registrar in 2021, where she oversaw the effective coordination of the SOGS’s Distance Learning School activities. In 2022, Mrs Gyan was elevated to the rank of Deputy Registrar with oversight responsibilities at the School of Graduate Studies.

Before joining the UPSA, Mrs Gyan worked with Toyota Ghana Limited as a Sales Administrator in 1996. She rose swiftly through the ranks and later held the positions of Credit Control Officer in 1998 and Marketing and Customer Relations Officer (Parts Division) in 2000.

She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resource Management, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Management, both from the University of Ghana. She also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the erstwhile Institute of Professional Studies (now University of Professional Studies, Accra).

Mrs Gyan is a distinguished member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (MCIMG), the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM), and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA). She has also served on several working and ad hoc committees of the university.

Throughout her career, Mrs Gyan has actively participated in numerous continuing professional development programmes focusing on leadership, women's empowerment, higher education advancement, student services, and human resource management.

She is an advocate for operational and organisational excellence and prides herself on leveraging technology to improve administrative processes and services to the benefit of the University's stakeholders.

With her strong leadership and communication skills, Mrs Gyan is also adept at leading teams to achieve organisational goals while maintaining a people- and process-centred approach.

She is an ardent charismatic Christian. She is married with four children.
