Actor Van Vicker inspires UPSA Public Relations students

Ghanaian movie star Joseph Van Vicker has inspired students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) to aim higher in their pursuit of success.

Van Vicker, who has starred in numerous local and international movies, shared his personal journey to success with first year Public Relations Diploma students in a lecture organised by the Department of Communication Studies on Wednesday, April 5.

He emphasized the importance of hard work, dedication, commitment, and a positive mindset in achieving one’s goals.

Van Vicker spoke about the challenges he faced growing up as a teenager, including his inability to enter the university due to dire financial challenges.

He emphasized the importance of perseverance and resilience in overcoming obstacles and achieving success.

“To be committed is to have an emotional connection with something, while dedication, on the other hand, is an interpersonal devotion towards a cause,” said Van Vicker, who is also a filmmaker and an entrepreneur.

“Whilst you are here, you need to be motivated and inspired by your own dreams while being committed and dedicated to your purpose and goals.”

He acknowledged that not all students would be able to reach the highest level of education but encouraged them to make the best use of the resources and facilities available to them to achieve their dreams.

The students were captivated by Van Vicker’s story and were inspired to pursue their own dreams with the same level of determination and resilience.

They asked questions about how to handle setbacks and what steps they could take to achieve their goals.

The celebrity lecture series, spearheaded by Mr. Daniel Fenyi, a lecturer, is part of a larger effort by the Department of Communication Studies to inspire young people to pursue their passions and make a difference in the world.
