Faculty of Accounting and Finance educates small-scale businesses in Adentan Municipality

The Faculty of Accounting and Finance of the University of Professional Studies, Accra has embarked on a corporate social responsibility program aimed at training small and medium scale businesses in the university’s catchment areas to improve on their services.

The annual training session under the UPSA community service programme took place in the Adentan Municipality, educating the business owners on accessing and managing credit facilities, providing effective and efficient customer care as well as book-keeping.

A lecturer at the Faculty of Accounting and Finance, Ivy Eklemet says this is only one of a series of related programs that the Faculty plans on rolling out.

“We plan to organize many more of such educational events in the near future because we have realized the need for it. A lot of these small-scale businesses have the potential to grow and expand beyond their current status,” she said.

“They have, however, failed to do so because operators of these businesses lack the basic skills to properly get their acts together. This has resulted in them losing so much, making it almost impossible to reach their full growth. Our mission is to help them overcome these challenges.”

On her part, a business owner in the municipality, Madam Olivia Oppong praised the UPSA and the Faculty of Accounting and Finance for the initiative, believing it will serve them well.

“I want to thank UPSA for this brilliant idea,” Madam Olivia said. “I have learned so much from this program already and I will encourage authorities of the university to organize more of such forums for us periodically.”
