The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has begun a series of thanksgiving services to mark the culmination of its year-long 60th Anniversary celebrations, with the first service held at Action Chapel International in Accra. The service, held on Sunday, 6 September 2026, brought together University leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni and other members of the UPSA community in gratitude for six decades of institutional growth, transformation and impact.
The Action Chapel service is the first of three thanksgiving services lined up as part of activities bringing the University’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations to a close.
Delivering the sermon on the theme, “The Edge of a New Season,” based on Isaiah 43:19, the Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, congratulated UPSA on its 60-year journey and urged the University community to approach its next chapter with renewed vision, purpose and a readiness for change.
“A new season calls for a new way of doing things,” Archbishop Duncan-Williams said, stressing that new opportunities often require individuals and institutions to abandon old mindsets and practices.
Drawing on Philippians 3:13, he encouraged the University community not to be constrained by past achievements, but to remain focused on the possibilities ahead.
He noted that recognising a new season requires awareness and intentional preparation, adding that institutions must understand when circumstances demand a departure from “business as usual”.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams further emphasised the importance of preparation, sacrifice and a change of mindset in navigating transitions successfully. He urged the congregation to relinquish behaviours, practices and relationships that could hinder progress.
The message resonated strongly with the University’s transition beyond its 60th anniversary, as UPSA reflects on six decades of achievement while looking ahead to the next phase of its institutional development.
The service also provided an opportunity for members of the University community to express gratitude for UPSA’s journey and commit its future aspirations to God.
Among those in attendance were the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor; Registrar, Mrs Lorraine Gyan; Director of Finance, Mr Nicholas Adjei; and President of the UPSA Alumni Association, Mr Francis Dadzie. Deans, directors, faculty members, staff and students were also present.
The two remaining thanksgiving services will continue the University’s collective expression of gratitude as UPSA concludes its Diamond Jubilee commemorations and looks towards a new chapter of growth and impact.
