The Institute of Work, Employment and Society (IWES) of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has graduated 28 supervisors from AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine under its Certificate in Supervisory Management programme, while formally admitting 30 new participants into the sixth cohort. The joint graduation and matriculation ceremony was held on 20 June 2026 at the Anyinam Lodge of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.

The ceremony underscored the sustained partnership between UPSA and AngloGold Ashanti in developing supervisory competence, leadership discipline and workplace effectiveness within Ghana’s mining industry. Established in 2022, the programme is designed to strengthen the leadership and management capabilities of supervisors across the Mine’s operations. With the completion of the fifth cohort, IWES has trained 153 supervisors from AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.
Representing the Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, the Director of Mining, Ing. Frederick Kwame Fosu Tenkorang, congratulated the graduands for their dedication and urged them to translate the knowledge gained into improved performance, safety-conscious leadership and stronger team outcomes. He encouraged them to take ownership of their roles and pursue personal and career excellence.

UPSA was represented by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Emmanuel Selase Asamoah; the Acting Director of IWES, Dr Erika Mamley Osae; and other University officials.
In her address, Dr Osae commended the graduands for their commitment and perseverance, particularly for dedicating their weekends to the one-year training. She reminded them that leadership is ultimately expressed through service, care and the ability to inspire those they supervise, rather than through positional authority alone.
Professor Asamoah urged the graduands to lead with integrity, embrace teamwork and apply their learning to create positive impact in their work environments. He also officially matriculated the 30 supervisors admitted into the sixth cohort, charging them to approach the programme with seriousness and discipline.

He further expressed UPSA’s appreciation to AngloGold Ashanti for its continued confidence in the University, noting that such industry-academia collaboration remains vital to building capable professionals for critical sectors of the economy.
The ceremony also recognised outstanding participants. Mr Isaac Akomah Sakyi was adjudged Overall Best Graduating Student, while Nadia Husein-Talatu Baaji and Kwabena Annohene received Key Resource Awards. Hannah Afrakomah and Emmanuel Nurubang Diporo were named Best Female and Best Male Participants respectively, with Oscar Donkor receiving the Most Improved Student award.

The Certificate in Supervisory Management programme forms part of IWES’s mandate to deliver practical, industry-focused training that equips professionals with the competencies required to improve organisational performance and contribute to national development.
