UPSA JCR Transitions to New Leadership, Celebrates Legacy and Sets Vision for the Future

The Junior Common Room (JCR) of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has formally handed over leadership from the 2025/2026 administration to a newly elected team. The ceremony, held on Thursday, 25 June 2026, brought together Hall Masters, Hall Tutors, Hostel Management, student leaders, residents and other stakeholders in the University’s hall system.

The event marked an important moment of continuity in student governance, offering the outgoing administration the opportunity to account for its stewardship while allowing the incoming executives to set out their vision for the next phase of JCR leadership.

Mr Chris Kwadwo Tetteh

Delivering his handing-over address, the outgoing JCR Chairman and Liberty Hall President, Mr Chris Kwadwo Tetteh, reflected on his administration’s commitment to student welfare, effective hall governance and community development.

He highlighted a number of initiatives undertaken during his tenure, including maintenance interventions across the halls, the provision of whiteboards for study rooms, a breast cancer awareness campaign, Hall Week celebrations, and a Freshers’ Welcome Event organised in collaboration with the Students’ Representative Council.

Mr Tetteh also cited the successful conduct of the first-ever online JCR election as a major milestone in strengthening participation and transparency in the JCR electoral process.

He further noted that the outgoing administration had advocated for the restoration of important governance structures, including hall meetings, the JCR General Assembly and the JCR Judicial Council. As part of its legacy projects, the administration also worked with the Vice-Chancellor to secure dustbins for residents across the University’s three hostels.

While commending his team for the gains made, Mr Tetteh identified the renovation of the JCR office, improved publicity, and more diverse student-centred programming as areas that would require sustained attention. He urged the incoming administration to build on the foundations laid and to keep student welfare at the centre of its work.

Receiving the mantle of leadership, the incoming JCR Chairman and Mandela Hall President, Mr Adu Sylvester Twum, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He pledged to lead with dedication, humility, accountability and responsiveness.
