UPSA Faculty of Management Studies Holds Public Lecture on Strategic Leadership, Governance and Ethical Business in a Challenging Economic Landscape

The Faculty of Management Studies at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has held a public lecture to deepen students’ appreciation of strategic leadership, governance, ethical business practice and enterprise development in today’s complex economic environment.

The lecture, held on Friday, 8 May 2026, was on the theme, “Strategic Leadership, Governance and Ethical Business in a Challenging Economic Landscape.” It brought together students, faculty members and industry professionals for a reflective engagement on leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation, corporate governance and institutional sustainability.

In his welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies, Dr Ernest Mensah Abraham, reaffirmed the Faculty’s commitment to UPSA’s philosophy of “Scholarship with Professionalism.” He noted that the Faculty remains focused on producing graduates who are not only academically grounded, but also professionally prepared to respond to the demands of industry, society and a rapidly changing global economy.

Dr Abraham said the lecture formed part of the Faculty’s deliberate efforts to expose students to practical industry perspectives and contemporary leadership conversations that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr Ade Adebajo urged students to move beyond the conventional expectation of waiting for employment after graduation and to begin positioning themselves as entrepreneurs, innovators and builders of sustainable institutions.

Drawing on his professional experience across Ghana, Nigeria and the United Kingdom, Mr Adebajo highlighted the realities of operating within a volatile, competitive and interconnected global business environment. He stressed that adaptability, strategic thinking, discipline, sound governance and ethical leadership are essential attributes for individuals and institutions seeking long-term relevance and impact.

He further encouraged students to embrace innovation, cultivate problem-solving abilities and uphold integrity in their personal and professional lives. According to him, sustainable businesses and enduring institutions are built not merely on profit, but on purpose, ethical conduct, good governance and the capacity to create value that advances society.

Also speaking at the lecture, Dr Kofi Osei Kusi encouraged students to be intentional about developing their leadership capacity through mentorship, continuous learning and personal discipline. He noted that effective leadership remains central to professional growth, institutional transformation and national development.

The public lecture forms part of the Faculty’s broader agenda to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and provide students with practical insights that prepare them for leadership, enterprise and professional excellence in a changing global economy.
