As part of an ongoing effort to deepen meaningful student engagement and open governance, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor on Tuesday, 10 March 2026 held a consultative meeting with the leadership of the Law Students’ Union (LSU) to discuss issues relating to student welfare, academic administration and upcoming Union activities within the Faculty of Law.
Academic matters also featured prominently in the discussions, particularly the supplementary examinations for Level 400 law students. The Vice-Chancellor assured the LSU that the resit examinations would be conducted in line with the academic calendar and noted that the supplementary examination arrangement remains an established part of the University’s academic framework.
The LSU also formally invited the Vice-Chancellor to participate in its upcoming LSU Week celebration. Welcoming the invitation, Prof. Mawutor expressed his readiness to support the event as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between University Management and student leadership.
Among the other matters discussed was the collection of Union dues. Prof. Mawutor clarified that while the University does not object to the Union collecting dues, the process must not be coercive. He encouraged the LSU leadership to adopt transparent and accountable approaches that would promote mutual understanding among students.
The meeting underscored UPSA’s commitment to participatory governance, responsive leadership and constructive engagement with its student body. Through such engagements, the University continues to foster a collaborative environment in which student voices contribute meaningfully to the continuous improvement of its academic and administrative systems.
