The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has welcomed a delegation from EKA University of Applied Sciences, Latvia, for a one-week working visit under the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility programme, as part of the University’s drive to deepen internationalisation and expand strategic partnerships.
The visiting team, Mg. paed. Artūrs Homins, Director of International Cultural Project Management, and Mg.sc.soc. Edgars Čerkovskis, Director of Circular Economy and Social Entrepreneurship, was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Asamoah, the Registrar, Mrs. Lorraine Buerkie Gyan, and the Ag. Director of Centre for International Education and Collaborations (CIEC), Dr. Edwin Ayernor.
The engagement underscored UPSA’s commitment to building globally connected collaborations that strengthen institutional systems, enrich professional education, and widen opportunities for staff development and cross-border learning.

As part of the Day One engagements, the delegation held working discussions with key units of the University, including the Documentation and Information Management Centre (DIMC), the Information Service and Technology Directorate (ISTD), Quality Assurance Directorate and the Academic Affairs Directorate, as the two institutions exchanged perspectives on strengthening quality systems, academic administration, and technology-enabled service delivery.
The UPSA Vice Chancellor, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, noted that the mobility engagement provides a practical platform for benchmarking institutional processes and identifying areas where collaboration can translate into measurable outcomes, particularly in strengthening internal review mechanisms, enhancing teaching and learning frameworks, and improving the digital infrastructure that supports academic delivery and student experience.

Over the course of the week, the visit is expected to consolidate institutional learning and collaboration through structured engagements across UPSA’s leadership and technical teams, with the goal of sharing best practices, aligning approaches to quality assurance and academic systems, and exploring sustainable collaboration pathways, especially in emerging areas such as circular economy and social entrepreneurship, that reinforce UPSA’s global relevance and professional mandate.
