UPSA 60th Anniversary Planning Committee engages Ghana Revenue Authority to strengthen alumni partnership ahead of landmark celebrations

The UPSA 60th Anniversary Planning Committee has engaged the leadership of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to explore strategic collaboration and mobilise alumni support toward the University’s diamond jubilee celebrations.

At the meeting held on Monday, 16 February 2026, the Chairman of the Planning Committee and Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), Mr Kwabena Agyekum, briefed the Authority on UPSA’s anniversary programme and appealed for sponsorship and visibility partnerships that would enhance stakeholder participation in the milestone celebrations.

He also encouraged the activation of the strong UPSA alumni presence within the GRA to support the anniversary agenda and strengthen the University’s long-standing contribution to Ghana’s professional workforce.

Mr Agyekum proposed a collaborative visibility platform, an “Evening with the Commissioner-General”, to be hosted on the UPSA campus, noting that the engagement could serve as a high-impact public education forum for promoting tax awareness and compliance.

He indicated that such a partnership would align well with the GRA’s mandate while positioning UPSA@60 as a national conversation on professionalism, public service and responsible citizenship.

The Vice Chairman of the Planning Committee and President of the UPSA Global Alumni Association, Mr Francis Dadzie, outlined key highlights of the anniversary programme, including the relaunch of the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) on 17 March 2026, a high-level conference to be hosted by His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene and a distinguished UPSA alumnus, on 15 May 2026, as well as a Hackathon and AI Innovation Session designed to spotlight student ingenuity and UPSA’s future-focused orientation.

Welcoming the Committee, Dr Martin Kolbil Yamborigya, Commissioner for Domestic Tax Revenue and a proud alumnus of UPSA, expressed enthusiasm about the University’s anniversary plans and pledged to serve as an anniversary ambassador within the Authority.

He assured the Committee of his commitment to mobilising the UPSA alumni network at the GRA and to explore co-branding and sponsorship opportunities, particularly those aligned with the Authority’s ongoing three-year Tax Compliance Campaign.

The engagement also featured contributions from GRA’s Communication and Public Affairs team, who shared insights on the Authority’s public education priorities and the potential to structure partnership activities that deliver measurable national impact.

On the UPSA side, the Secretary to the Planning Committee, Dr Leticia Akyeampong, and the Head of Fundraising, Dr Juliana Akushika, highlighted the broader stakeholder engagement strategy for UPSA@60 and the importance of aligning sponsorship partnerships with institutional value, visibility and national relevance.

The Director of IPS, Prof. Fidelis Quansah, also emphasised the opportunity to deepen collaboration around professional education, in line with UPSA’s legacy as Ghana’s leading professional university.

As a symbol of goodwill and shared commitment, the Committee presented the GRA with the UPSA@60 Anniversary Plan Document and commemorative souvenirs.

UPSA and the Ghana Revenue Authority reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening professional education and advancing a sustainable partnership that supports national development, as the University builds momentum toward its 60th Anniversary celebrations.
