UPSA engages ICAG to deepen professional education and reposition IPS for greater impact

The UPSA 60th Anniversary Planning Committee on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, paid the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), Mr. E. O. Osae,  as part of activities of the University’s 60th Anniversary celebrations, with discussions focusing on strategic collaboration to strengthen professional education and enhance the visibility of the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) under UPSA.

The Committee officially briefed the Institute on UPSA’s anniversary plans and explored partnership opportunities, particularly in the relaunch and repositioning of IPS as a well-established professional institute within the University.

As a symbol of goodwill and the milestone ahead, the Committee presented ICAG with the 60th Anniversary plan document and commemorative souvenirs, including branded anniversary T-shirts.

Speaking at the meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Planning Committee and President of the UPSA Global Alumni Association, Mr. Francis Dadzie, underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in amplifying the impact and visibility of IPS, especially as UPSA deepens its commitment to practice-driven education.

The Director of IPS, Prof. Fidelis Quansah, noted that the Institute currently serves a growing number of students, and expressed optimism that a strengthened relationship with ICAG would expand opportunities for learners and reinforce professional pathways for students.

Mr. Osae welcomed the UPSA delegation and assured the University of ICAG’s support, affirming the Institute’s interest in initiatives that advance professional education and strengthen industry relevance.

This commitment was reinforced by the Director of Finance and Administration at ICAG, Mrs. Joyce Opoku-Duodu, who is also a member of the UPSA 60th Anniversary Planning Committee, and emphasised ICAG’s readiness to support programmes that promote quality professional training.

The Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at ICAG, Ms. Joyce Adu, also highlighted the value of a structured partnership framework to further deepen collaboration between the two institutions.

The Chairman of the UPSA 60th Anniversary Planning Committee, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), Mr. Kwabena Agyekum, expressed appreciation to ICAG for the warm reception and used the occasion to invite other professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB), the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana (CITG), the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management, Ghana (CIHRM), and CIMG, to participate in UPSA’s 60th Anniversary celebrations.

He noted that a significant number of members across these professional bodies are alumni of the Institute of Professional Studies, underscoring IPS’s enduring contribution to Ghana’s professional workforce.

The UPSA delegation included Dr. Mrs. Leticia Akyeampong, Deputy Director of Administration and Secretary to the UPSA 60th Anniversary Planning Committee; Mr. Japhet Vitasi, Administrator, IPS, and others.

UPSA and ICAG reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening professional education through a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership.
