The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has formally welcomed 2,957 newly admitted students into its academic community at a colourful matriculation ceremony held on Friday, November 7.

The event, which marked the official induction of new students into the university, brought together undergraduate top-up, master’s degree, post-first degree Bachelor of Laws, and PhD students.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, warmly welcomed the matriculants and underscored the significance of the matriculation ceremony as an important academic tradition.

Professor Mawutor urged the students to uphold the university’s core values of integrity, discipline, scholarship, and professionalism while strictly adhering to UPSA’s professional dress code policy.

“You are welcome to the UPSA family, which has a legacy of excellence,” he said, reaffirming UPSA’s commitment to producing professionals who combine knowledge with integrity and innovation.

Addressing graduate students, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged them to ensure their research contributes to solving national challenges and promoting sustainable development.

He further charged PhD students to “redefine knowledge and push the boundaries of innovation,” reiterating the university’s commitment to advancing impactful research.

Touching on technology and innovation, Professor Mawutor advised students to use artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and productively in their academic work. He revealed that the university will soon launch its own AI policy to guide the ethical and effective use of AI tools in teaching, learning, and research.

This year’s matriculants include 134 students from the UPSA Law School, 529 from the Faculty of Management Studies, 197 from the Faculty of Accounting and Finance, 431 from the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Studies, and 1,661 from the School of Graduate Studies.
