USOPS holds sensitisation workshop for UPSA staff on Tier 2 Pension Scheme

The Universities Staff Occupational Pension Scheme (USOPS) has organised a sensitisation workshop for staff of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) to educate them on issues relating to their Tier 2 pension scheme and
retirement benefits.

The workshop, held at the LBC Auditorium on October 13, 2025, formed part of USOPS’s nationwide engagement to provide members with a deeper understanding of their pension contributions, benefit entitlements, and the progress made by the Board in managing their retirement funds.

Addressing participants, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of USOPS, Dr. Andrews Doeh Agblobi, noted that upon assuming office, the Board was confronted with a number of challenges, including the lack of access to member statements, absence of a dedicated office space, and the non-availability of full-time administrative staff.

“Today, in all humility, we wish to state that most of the above issues have been resolved,” Dr. Doe said. “For instance, UPSA is among the few universities where members can now access their full statements dating back to 2010.

Additionally, benefit payments for the 2025 retirees and beyond are being processed using verified member  statements.”

He reaffirmed USOPS’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and accountability in managing the retirement funds of public university staff across Ghana.

He also encouraged members to take advantage of the digital systems put in place to monitor their contributions and ensure accuracy in their records.

The Registrar of UPSA, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan, expressed gratitude to USOPS for the insightful engagement and thanked staff for participating actively in the session.

She urged employees to take issues concerning their pensions seriously, emphasizing that retirement planning should begin long before the end of active service.

“Every staff member must frequently monitor their pension contributions and statements to ensure that they are not shortchanged when they retire,” Mrs. Gyan advised.

USOPS is the statutory body mandated to manage, invest, and administer the Tier 2 retirement benefits of staff of Ghana’s public universities.

The sensitisation programme forms part of its broader effort to ensure that members are well-informed about their rights, contributions, and the measures in place to safeguard their future security.
