UPSA inaugurates Curriculum Review Committee to drive academic reforms

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on Thursday, September 11, 2025, inaugurated its maiden Curriculum Review Committee to spearhead a comprehensive overhaul of the institution’s academic programmes in response to the rapidly evolving global landscape.

The 31-member committee is made up of both internal and external experts drawn from academia, industry, and professional bodies.

It will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, who underscored the significance of this milestone for the University.

“This is the first time UPSA is putting together such a committee, and it is timely,” Prof. Mawutor stated. “Our goal is to review the curriculum to meet contemporary global issues and to equip our graduates not only with the right skill set but also with the capacity to succeed in the world of work and beyond.”

Prof. Mawutor disclosed that the University has not undertaken a curriculum review in nearly a decade, making this exercise critical for UPSA’s continued relevance and competitiveness.

He hinted at the introduction of emerging fields such as Agribusiness and information technology, with AI, leadership and ethics set to become a compulsory course for all students.

“As a University, we pledge to remain competitive. That is why we are constantly working towards introducing programmes and courses that are not only relevant but transformative,” he emphasised.

Members of the newly constituted committee took both the Oath of Office and the Oath of Secrecy, signifying their commitment to the task ahead.

The Curriculum Review Committee is expected to engage extensively with stakeholders and propose reforms that align UPSA’s programmes with global standards, industry needs, and national development priorities.
