UPSA leadership calls on former President Kufuor

A high-level delegation from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has paid a courtesy call on former President John Agyekum Kufuor at his residence in Peduase.

The visit was to pay homage to the former President and formally introduce the new management team of the University.

The delegation also extended an official invitation to him to attend this year’s UPSA Annual Leadership Lecture, which will be delivered by H.E. Jacob Zuma, former President of South Africa.

Professor Mawutor thanked the former President for his continued interest in the development of UPSA.

He acknowledged the crucial role the former President played in transforming the then Institute of Professional Studies into UPSA.

“Your vision and foresight laid the foundation for what UPSA has become today,” he said.

Welcoming the delegation, President Kufuor expressed his delight at the visit and described Mr. Zuma as a “personal friend” with whom he shares long-standing ties.

He lauded UPSA for maintaining high standards in leadership training and praised the steady progress of the University.

“UPSA is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country when it comes to physical infrastructure,” President Kufuor noted. “I get a sense of pride anytime I visit your campus.”

He further expressed his satisfaction with UPSA’s transformation, recalling that it was during his tenure as President that the institution was granted a Presidential Charter to become a full-fledged university.

President Kufuor, who was a distinguished speaker at the second edition of the UPSA Annual Leadership Lecture in 2018, commended the University’s continued commitment to promoting high-level dialogue on leadership across Africa.

This year’s UPSA Leadership Lecture, scheduled for August 19, promises to be a historic gathering of statesmen, thought leaders, academics, political actors, and students.
