IWES-UPSA launches Supervisory Management Training program for Asante Gold Corporation staff

The Institute of Work, Employment and Society (IWES) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has officially commenced a six-month Certificate programme in Supervisory Management for selected supervisory staff of Asante Gold Corporation (AGC).

Participants were drawn from AGC’s subsidiaries across the country, including Chirano, Bibiani, Kubi, and the corporate office in Accra.

The initiative marks a significant expansion of UPSA’s collaboration with the mining sector, particularly AGC, following a successful prior engagement with one of its subsidiaries.

Speaking during the matriculation ceremony, Dr Mrs Erika Mamley Osae, Acting Director of IWES, lauded the partnership as “a celebration of progress and a strategic investment in people.”

She highlighted the training’s emphasis on soft skills such as leadership, communication, and ethical decision-making, describing the programme as one that empowers participants to become “torchbearers” of organisational transformation.

She further explained that the training, grounded in adult learning principles, covers five core modules tailored to enhance the capabilities of AGC’s frontline supervisors.

“This is no ordinary milestone,” Dr Osae said. “It is a definitive statement that AGC sees its people as its most valuable asset. You are not just learners; you are torchbearers who will help shape the culture, capacity, and legacy of Asante Gold Corporation.”

Dr Mrs Osae expressed UPSA’s gratitude to Asante Gold Corporation for its continued trust and partnership, affirming its dedication to delivering transformative learning that drives professional excellence and national development.

Welcoming the participants, the General Manager for the Chirano Mines, Ing. Stephen Kwesi Yamoah, underscored the pivotal role of frontline supervisors in bridging strategy and execution.

“Supervisors are the bridge between strategy and execution,” he said, quoting leadership expert John C. Maxwell: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

He encouraged participants to view the programme not just as a path to a certificate but as a powerful opportunity to transform their leadership style, sharpen their management skills, and align their work with broader Asante Gold Corporation goals.

For his part, the General Manager of Bibiani Gold Mines, Dr Sam Kwesi Takyi, described the training as “an investment in people, not in positions,” reinforcing AGC’s commitment to building a resilient and high-performing workforce.

He urged participants to take the programme seriously and use it to transform their professional impact.

The ceremony saw the presence of senior AGC officials, including Mrs Maria Kyiamah Wilson, Group Human Resource Manager, and Ms Janet Yaa Ofosuhemaa Asomaning, Regional HR Manager, alongside other line managers—demonstrating broad institutional support for the initiative.
