The UPSA campus came alive on Saturday as hundreds gathered for the Vice-Chancellor’s Health Walk.
The highly anticipated event aimed at celebrating the remarkable tenure of outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abednego Okoe Amartey, while promoting a healthy lifestyle among community members.
The 8.6-kilometre walk began from the scenic Ayi Mensah town in Accra and ended at the lush trails of Peduase, on the Akwapim Mountains.
It brought together students, staff, faculty members, well-wishers, as well as senior management, deans, directors, and heads of departments.
Clad in university-branded shirts and caps, participants eagerly took on the fitness challenge, navigating the winding hilly roads of Aburi with enthusiasm and resilience.
Along the route, participants enjoyed the camaraderie of the group and the energising beauty of the surrounding landscape amidst singing and dancing.
Prof. Amartey, who led the walk, commended the university community for showing up in large numbers.
“It’s heartening to see such a strong turnout. As we walk together, it symbolises not only our commitment to health but also our unity as an academic family,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Health Walk marks the first in a series of activities celebrating his impactful leadership.
“For those who joined the walk, the event was more than just an exercise—it was a meaningful tribute to a vice chancellor who has left an indelible mark on the institution,” said Coach Ali, organiser for the health walk.
