UPSA holds orientation programme for new staff

The University of Professional Studies, Accra has organised a comprehensive orientation programme for 40 newly recruited staff members.

The recruits include 27 faculty members, five senior member administrators and eight administrative support personnel.

The one-day employee orientation held at the School of Graduate Studies aimed to familiarise the new staff with the institution’s operations, expectations, and opportunities.

It is also aimed at equipping them with essential knowledge to navigate their new roles effectively.

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof Abednego F. O. Amartey congratulated the new staff on their appointments and emphasised the need for hard work.

“We are committed to supporting your development,” Prof Amartey said, “but I urge you not to take this opportunity for granted. Rather, approach your responsibilities with dedication and a sense of purpose.”

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, highlighted the significance of the orientation programme in familiarising the new staff with the University’s operations.

He encouraged them to maintain high levels of integrity and professionalism in all their duties.

“You must acquaint yourselves with the university’s rules, regulations, and policies and conduct yourselves appropriately at all times,” he charged.

Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Anthony Afeadie, delivered a presentation focused on the academic structure of the university, the faculty system, and essential guidelines on conducting assessments and examinations.

Other speakers included the directors of medical services, finance, the Information and Systems Technology Directorate (ISTD), and human resources, each of whom provided key insights into their respective departments.

Topics discussed during the orientation included managing stress and general wellness, people management and interaction, academic responsibilities and progression, and promotion criteria.
