IWES organises training course for mining supervisors

A total of 41 staff members from AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mines in Tarkwa have successfully completed a six-month certification course in supervisory management.

The short course, offered by the Institute of Work, Employment, and Society (IWES) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, is aimed at enhancing professional development within the mining sector.

The graduation ceremony marked the culmination of a rigorous programme designed to equip participants with the advanced supervisory skills essential for effective management in the mining industry.

In a related development, a matriculation ceremony was held for 35 staff members from Chirano Gold Mines who have enrolled in the same course.

This new cohort of students is expected to benefit from IWES’s comprehensive curriculum, which combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications tailored to the unique challenges faced in the mining sector.

Vice Dean at the Faculty of Accounting and Finance, Dr. Edward Attah-Botchway, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abednego Amartey at both events, congratulated the participants on their selection and dedication despite their busy schedules.

He commended the management of AngloGold Ashanti and Chirano Gold Mines for investing in the capacity development of their workforce.

She said the success of the supervisory management course signals a promising future for ongoing collaborations that are aimed at fostering professional growth and excellence in the workforce.

Under the partnerships, IWES has so far trained more than 250 staff from AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi and Iduapriem Mines) and Chirano Gold Mines since the inception of the programme in 2021.
