The Global Alumni Association of the University of Professional Studies, Accra has honoured Rev. Joseph Kweku Antwi, former Director of Finance of the University for his sacrifice, commitment to duty and immense contribution to the development of the institution over the past three decades.
Rev Antwi, an alumnus of the ’89 year group, also worked with the University from 1992 and until his retirement in July this year.
He was honoured at the Second Session of the University’s 12th Congregation held on Thursday.
Chairman of the UPSA Global Alumni Association, Mr Francis Dadzie, paid glowing tribute to Rev. Antwi, saying: “you devoted almost three decades of your life to the service of the University and your contribution to what the University is today shall forever be etched in the hearts and minds of your colleagues.”
A citation presented to Rev. Antwi also read in part: “Your proclivity for sound judgement, clarity of thought and display of sheer wisdom where strategic direction is required made you serve on numerous committees in the University.”
Speaking shortly after the presentation, Rev Antwi expressed his profound gratitude to the Almighty God for how He has brought him. He also thanked the alumni association and the Management of the University for the honour bestowed on him.
Other members of the association described the former Liberty Hall Secretary as an unassuming strong pillar in the architecture of the University and an embodiment of honesty, valour and diligence.
This is the third recognition Rev Antwi has received after proceeding on retirement two months ago. The first two came from the Management of the University as well as the UPSA Chapter of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
Rev. Joseph Kweku Antwi joined the then Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) in 1992 as an Accounting Assistant. By dint of hard work, he rose through the ranks to become the first Director of Finance when the institution become a full-fledged university. With over 28 years of service, Rev. Antwi is touted as one of the longest-serving members ever on the university’s Management team.
