2019 CONGREGATION: Faculty of Management Studies

The third session of the 11th Congregation of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has been held with 1,435 students who pursued various programmes of study at the Faculty of Management Studies graduating with honours.

 

 

The graduands, made up of 1,119 undergraduates and 316 diploma students were drawn from the Departments of Marketing, and Business Administration. For the undergraduate level, 27 obtained First Class, 317 Second Class Upper, 379 Second Class Lower, 285 Third Class and 111 had Pass degrees. Eight (8) of the Diplomates attained Distinction, while 179 obtained credit and 129 got Pass.

 

Addressing Congregation on Friday, July 26, 2019, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, congratulated the class of 2019 for working assiduously to satisfy the requirements for earning their respective degrees and diplomas. He said UPSA was equally pleased to be part of their success stories and remains resolute in its quest to ensuring graduates of the University reaches the pinnacle of their professional ladder.

Prof. Amartey, therefore, urged graduands to deploy the skills acquired to harness the infinite opportunities in the business world.

 

“We have prepared you adequately and now release you into an uncertain world to get out there and search for opportunity. There are numerous opportunities out there and there are infinite possibilities of what you could do with your kind of training, talent, scholarship, diligence, passion and character,” he admonished.

 

The Vice-Chancellor also challenged the graduating students to demonstrate high sense of professionalism and integrity across all sphere of their lives, saying: “Wherever you will be in this world, I beseech you to uphold the high values of integrity and professionalism. Be above reproach. In a world teeming with opportunities for corruption and easy gain, take the high moral ground.”

 

The Director of Human Capital Management, BOLLORE Transport and Logistics Ghana, Mr. Moses Temanu, who doubled as the guest speaker, noted that the pride of every university is its ability to adequately impact the requisite knowledge and skills to its students with the firm hope of making them ready for the job market.

He said graduates of the University have become the most sought-after because of their exceptional training which set them apart from other higher institutions- This he said was an affirmation of the University’s unique core value of scholarship with professionalism.

 

Mr Temanu, thus, commended the Management of the University for this achievement over the years.

“As an alumnus of this University, I have observed with a sense of pride and keen interest, the development of this institution, from humble beginnings to its present enviable state as a world-class university. I also commend the leadership of UPSA for placing emphasis on courses [that are] relevant to the needs and aspirations of Ghanaians particularly in the areas of management sciences, accountancy, marketing, banking and finance, communication studies, law and other related social sciences,” he said.

 

Mr Temanu, who is also the current Chair of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Ghana, advised graduands to “give life their best shot” and take advantage of the many opportunities that social media offers.

He also charged them to exhibit the right professional attitude in every task they will undertake as they exit higher education for work and urged them to constantly improve upon themselves.

Meanwhile, Paul Dwebeng, a Business Administration student, was adjudged the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Management Studies while some lecturers who distinguished themselves in the academic year were also honoured.
