Ecobank and UPSA partner to observe World Diabetes Day

The Ecobank Group and the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Wednesday November 12, 2020 partnered to commemorate World Diabetes Day.

In a 30-minute event which took place at the UPSA Astro Turf, eight members of the Ecobank Marketing Department engaged in workout sessions such as aerobics, dancing and ball games.

According to Dr Daniel Kasser Tee, Head of Marketing, Ecobank Ghana/WAMZ, the rationale behind the event was to shoot videos of the workout sessions, which would be widely shared on social media platforms to create awareness about non-communicable diseases with a focus on diabetes.

The Deputy Director of the Business Development Centre of UPSA, Mr. Robert Gyeke-Darko, thanked Ecobank for choosing UPSA as the venue for the event.

He said Prof Abednego Okoe Amartey, Vice-Chancellor of the University offered the Astro Turf for free to Ecobank due to the warm relationship the University has with Ecobank.

He said the university would be happy to partner with Ecobank to organise such health programmes, since they would be in the interest of both staff and students.

Mr. Gyeke-Darko also took the opportunity to introduce other facilities at the University, including the ultra-modern auditorium, to Ecobank.

Due to the COVID -19 pandemic and the restrictions taken by Management to mitigate the spread of the virus, staff of UPSA were not available to participate in the event.

Both organisations expressed the hope that the next edition would be a more elaborate event with full participation of staff from both organisations, with workout sessions and briefings on diabetes and how to manage the disease.

The staff of Ecobank also thanked the University for the free use of the Astro Turf.

World Diabetes Day is celebrated worldwide on November 14 each year.
